PRESS RELEASE
On Thursday, December 3, 2020, at approximately 8:32 pm, a New York State Trooper stopped a driver, Jeff Etienne, 26 of Westbury, NY, for being on his cell phone, eastbound on the Southern State Parkway west of exit 23, in the town of Hempstead, Nassau County. During the stop Etienne failed to follow directions, refused to exit the vehicle and a brief struggle ensued. Etienne then fled the scene and dragged the trooper a short distance with his vehicle. The trooper pursued the vehicle to the Wantagh State Parkway when it came to a stop south of Old Country Road, at which time Etienne was taken into custody.
Etienne is charged with Assault 2nd Degree (D-Felony), Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree (A-Misdemeanor), Fleeing an Officer 3rd degree (A-Misdemeanor), Obstruction of a Governmental Administration (A-Misdemeanor), Resisting Arrest (A-Misdemeanor) and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana 2nd and is held for arraignment at Nassau County First District Court.
The trooper was transported to a local hospital for a knee injury where he was treated and released.
