On March 11, 2020, at approximately 2:20 pm, the New York State Police responded to a call of a person with a weapon driving a white Mercedes SUV on the Meadowbrook Parkway.
A short time later another call was received stating the same vehicle was on the Northern State Parkway near exit 39, and the caller advised that he observed the driver with a with what appeared to be an assault rifle.
At approximately 3:07 pm, a trooper was stationary on the Northern State Parkway near exit 42 when the vehicle passed by at a high rate of speed.
The operator of the Mercedes failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. After a short distance, the operator stopped in the roadway and then exited the vehicle with a rifle pointing it in the direction of the responding troopers.
The operator was shot by the troopers and was taken into custody. The operator was subsequently airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for medical treatment.
All lanes of the Northern State Parkway have been reopened.
The investigation is ongoing and the State Police is asking for anyone with information regarding this incident to please call (631) 756-3300.

The investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
One person was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Troopers on the scene were not injured.
The Northern State Parkway is shutdown both eastbound and westbound at the Sagtikos State Parkway.
Traffic is being diverted. Drivers should find other routes.
