PRESS RELEASE

On August 26, 2019, State Police in Latham arrested 45-year-old Travis Smith of Albany, for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th degree, Criminal Possession of an Anti-Security Item, Possession of Burglar Tools, and 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Also arrested was 33-year-old Danilo E. Medina of Albany, for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th degree, Criminal Impersonation 2nd degree, Assault 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of an Anti-Security Item, Possession of Burglar Tools, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Trespass 3rd degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd degree, Resisting Arrest, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.
 
Shortly after noon on Monday, State Police stopped a vehicle on Watervliet Ave in the city of Albany for multiple traffic infractions. While interviewing the driver, Travis Smith, the Trooper observed a backseat passenger attempting to conceal a bag with his feet. The passenger provided their identity to the Trooper, who discovered that it was a false name. The passenger was identified as Danilo Medina.
 
When the Trooper asked Medina out of the car, a second passenger, later identified as 29-year-old Chantel E. Mudd of Albany, ran from the vehicle. Medina also fled on foot, entered a residence with a child inside, and barricaded the front door. Medina then exited the residence and jumped a fence where he encountered a second Trooper who took him into custody. The Trooper sustained injuries while effecting the arrest. Medina was transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment after it was discovered that he had ingested a quantity of crack cocaine.
 
A search of the vehicle revealed that the three suspects were in possession of multiple article of stolen clothing, a device to remove magnetic tags, and crack cocaine. Smith was taken into custody and transported to SP Latham for processing.
 
Chantel Mudd, who had also provided police with a false name, was arrested at Albany Medical Center on August 27th, when she went to visit Medina. Mudd was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th degree, Criminal Impersonation 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of an Anti-Security Item, Possession of Burglar Tools, Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd degree, Resisting Arrest, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Mudd was issued an appearance ticket and is due in Albany City Court on September 11, 2019 at 8: 30 a.m. Smith was issued an appearance ticket and is due in Albany City Court September 12, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.
