Ulster, NY - On December 27, 2021, at around 10:15 p.m., a marked State Police car was hit by a passenger vehicle on the left shoulder of I-87 northbound, in the town of Ulster.

Trooper James J. Adams was inside his patrol car investigating an unrelated crash in the area of the Kingston exit when a 2020 Mini Cooper driven by Katherine Pinedo, 33, of Albany, NY, lost control of her vehicle while traveling in the left lane and hit the troop car from behind.

Trooper Adams, a 7-year veteran assigned to SP Kingston, was taken to Kingston Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  Two passengers in the Mini Cooper, 36-year-old Erika Pinedo, and Telmo Pinedo, 64, of Sunrise, FL, were also taken to Kingston Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the vehicle in the initial crash was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.  State Police would like to remind drivers to slow down and move over when emergency and construction vehicles are working on the highway.
