PRESS RELEASE
 
On September 2, 2020 at approximately 8:15 p.m. troopers stopped a 2005 Acura TSX traveling on Furnace Street in the city of Kingston for a vehicle and traffic law violation. Troopers determined that the vehicle was being operated with switched plates. While troopers were interviewing the passenger David Stokes, age 35 of Kingston, he attempted to run from troopers. While being detained, Stokes began to resist, after a brief struggle he was taken into custody. Stokes was found to be in possession of approximately 49 grams of cocaine and 8 grams of marihuana. While being processed troopers learned that Stokes was on parole through the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Stokes was charged with:
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree (felony)
Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor)
Obstruction of Governmental Administration (misdemeanor)
Unlawful Possession of Marihuana (violation)
Revoke Parole.
 
The operator of the vehicle Eric Duncan, age 31 of Catskill was released with Uniform Traffic Tickets.
 
Troopers were assisted by City of Kingston Police Department.
