PRESS RELEASE

New York State Police in Troop C held several sobriety checkpoints and had increased patrols during Super Bowl weekend.  The effort cracks down on impaired and reckless driving and takes impaired drivers off the roadways.  STOP DWI efforts across New York have led to significant reductions in the number of drinking and driving fatalities. 
 
Three people were arrested over the Super Bowl weekend for Driving While Intoxicated. 
  • New York State Police at Richfield Springs arrested Melissa M. Bevins, age 49 of West Winfield, NY on February 2, 2020 at approximately 12:26 a.m. for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  Troopers on patrol observed Bevins in her vehicle parked in the middle of Bassett Road in the town of Plainfield and checked on the vehicle.  While interviewing Bevins, troopers detected several characteristics associated with alcohol impairment.  After an investigation, she was arrested with a reportable B.A.C of .11%.  Bevins was processed and released on appearance tickets to the town of Plainfield court on February 19, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party. 
  • New York State Police at Binghamton arrested Devlin J. Nagle, age 21 of Montrose, PA on February 2, 2020 at approximately 2:59 a.m. for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  Troopers on patrol observed Nagle make a vehicle and traffic violation on Court Street in the town of Kirkwood and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.  Troopers then observed Nagle pull into a parking lot then attempt to back into a parking spot and strike another vehicle.  As troopers interviewed Nagle, they smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage.  After failing standardized field sobriety tests, Nagle was arrested.  His reportable B.A.C was .15%.  Nagle was processed and issued appearance tickets to the town of Kirkwood court on February 18, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party. 
  • New York State Police at Binghamton arrested Ryan C. Ripic, age 22 of Endicott, NY on February 3, 2020 at approximately 3:05 a.m. for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  Troopers were dispatched by Broome County 911 to a vehicle off the roadway on the Interstate 88 westbound off ramp to Interstate 81 south in the town of Dickinson.  Troopers located Ripic behind the wheel and his vehicle approximately 50 feet down an embankment.  Ripic was not injured.  Troopers immediately observed Ripic display several common characteristics associated with alcohol impairment.  After failing standardized field sobriety tests, Ripic was arrested.  His reportable B.A.C was .16%.  Ripic was processed and issued appearance tickets to the town of Dickonson court on February 13, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party.
