On September 16, 2022, members of the Troop E New York State Police Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team (VGNET), Troop E K9, Troop E Uniform and the Elmira Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) conducted a methamphetamine investigation in the town of Chemung, NY. Law enforcement members executed a search warrant on County Route 60 and seized approximately 5 pounds of methamphetamine, approximately 7 pounds of processed cannabis, a 12-gauge shotgun with pistol grip and ammunition and over $4,000 in US currency.
As a result of the investigation, Robert J. Fairbanks, age 58, of Chemung, NY was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis 2nd Degree, and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2nd Degree. Fairbanks was arraigned in the Town of Ashland Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail on no bail and subsequently released.
The arrest was the result of a several month-long investigation conducted by the New York State Police and the Elmira Police Department.
