Troopers arrest a Chemung County resident for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis 2nd Degree, and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2nd Degree. 

On September 16, 2022, members of the Troop E New York State Police Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team (VGNET), Troop E K9, Troop E Uniform and the Elmira Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) conducted a methamphetamine investigation in the town of Chemung, NY.   Law enforcement members executed a search warrant on County Route 60 and seized approximately 5 pounds of methamphetamine, approximately 7 pounds of processed cannabis, a 12-gauge shotgun with pistol grip and ammunition and over $4,000 in US currency.    

As a result of the investigation, Robert J. Fairbanks, age 58, of Chemung, NY was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2^nd Degree, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis 2^nd Degree, and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2^nd Degree.  Fairbanks was arraigned in the Town of Ashland Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail on no bail and subsequently released.  

The arrest was the result of a several month-long investigation conducted by the New York State Police and the Elmira Police Department.
