On October 12, 2020, at approximately 3:44 p.m., the State Police attempted to stop a motorist for a vehicle and traffic violation on Joseph Avenue in Rochester. The operator did not comply when the trooper activated the emergency lights and siren and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit lasted less than one minute when the operator, Jose Rivera, age 27, from Rochester struck another vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The trooper chased and tackled Rivera who resisted arrest and assaulted the trooper until additional troopers arrived and took Rivera into custody. Rivera was found to be in possession of 109 bags of Fentanyl, and 1 bag of cocaine.
Rivera who is currently on Parole for weapons charges, was arrested for 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Governmental Administration.
A Violation of Parole Warrant was lodged and Rivera will be taken to the Monroe County Jail
