On September 9, 2020, at 1:33 p.m., State Police in Herkimer responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Summit Road and Hawthorne Road in the town of Newport, Herkimer County.

A 2008 Chevrolet Corvette, operated by Michael F. Graham, age 68 from Utica, NY was traveling south on Hawthorne Rd, Town of Newport when he entered the intersection with Summit Road and failed to yield the right of way to a 2016 Mazda, operated by Lisa M. Sperbeck, age 51 from Frankfort, NY.   Both vehicles exited the roadway on the southeast shoulder at the intersection of Summit Rd and Hawthorne Rd striking an earth embankment.

Graham was airlifted by Mercy Flight to SUNY Upstate Hospital for a laceration to his head. He was issued a ticket for Failure to Yield the right of way.

Sperbeck was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for a complaint of pain to the left knee.
