On January 25, 2020, State Police in Lee arrested 21-year-old Colton L. Shaffer of Rome, NY for Auto Stripping 2nd degree (E Felony), Criminal Mischief 2nd degree (D Felony) and Grand Larceny 4th degree (E Felony).

Following a two-month-long investigation, Shaffer is accused of destroying and damaging several vehicles and stealing their catalytic converters for scrap. He acted in concert with Richard Tennant, Jr who was previously arrested on January 17, 2020.

Shaffer was additionally charged with Burglary 3rd degree (D-Felony) for a second incident in the outer district of Rome in where he entered a barn and stole several catalytic converters off of several vehicles owned by the complainant. Shaffer then sold those converters to a business in the town of Marcy and received money for them.
Shaffer was arraigned in the Oneida County Centralized Arraignment Court and was remanded to the Oneida County Jail on $5000 bail. He is scheduled to return to the city of Rome court on a later date.
