PRESS RELEASE

On Sunday, August 28, 2022, shortly after 4:00 am, the State Police received reports of a vehicle driving the wrong way on the Meadowbrook State Parkway traveling southbound in the northbound lanes, approaching the Ocean Parkway in the town of Hempstead, Nassau County.  The Troopers arrived quickly to the area and were able safely stop the vehicle on the Ocean Parkway to avoid a tragedy.

 

The driver, Brandon Garzon, 24 years-old of Patchogue, NY, was found to be intoxicated with a B.A.C. of .14.  Further investigation revealed Garzon and passenger Jonathan Escobar, 31 years-old of Las Vegas, NV, to be in possession of Cocaine, LSD, Cathinone, Alprazolam, Oxycodone, Methamphetamine and MDMA.

 

Garzon was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

 

Garzon and Escobar were charged with the following:

 

Criminal Possession of a Controlled 2nd Degree an A-II Felony

Criminal Possession of a Controlled 2nd Degree Hallucinogenic Substance, an A-II Felony

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, a B Felony

Criminal Possession of a Controlled 3rd Degree – Narcotic, a B Felony

Criminal Possession of a Controlled 5th Degree with Intent to Sell, a D Felony

Criminal Possession of Cannabis, 3rd Degree, an A Misdemeanor

Criminal Use Drug Paraphernalia Package 2nd, an A Misdemeanor

Criminal Use Drug Paraphernalia Scales 2nd, an A Misdemeanor.    

 

Garzon and Escobar will be arraigned at Nassau County 1st District Court on August 29, 2022.

 

In addition to this arrest the New York State Police on Long Island removed an additional 14 intoxicated/impaired drivers from the roadways in Nassau and Suffolk County this weekend, and over 100 during the month of August.

The New York State Police will continue to prioritize removing intoxicated and impaired drivers from the roadways in the interest of safety for the motoring public.
