PRESS RELEASE

Update:
The operator of the motorcycle has been identified as Kyle J. Seamon, age 20 of Burlington Flats, NY.

Original release:

At approximately 4:48 p.m., New York State Police at Richfield Springs responded to a report of a collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV at State Route 28 and Hyder Road in the town of Richfield.

Troopers and emergency personnel performed life saving measures on the male operator of the motorcycle but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased on scene.  The female of the SUV was transported by AMR ambulance to Bassett.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the SUV was traveling north on State Route 28 when the driver began making a left turn onto Hyder Road; directly into the path of the motorcycle that was traveling south on State Route 28.

Members of the New York State Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) and the Otsego County Coroner responded to the scene.  Troopers were also assisted by members of the Richfield Springs Fire Department and EMS, Schuyler Lake Fire Department, West Winfield Ambulance and State DOT.

The incident remains under investigation.
