Bronx, New York – On March 8, 2021 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Troopers from SP Wards Island arrested Omar L. Wright, age 26, of Mount Vernon, New York and Tunisha Timmons, age 26, of Bronx, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree – a class C felony, Assault in the 2nd Degree – a class D felony, and Resisting Arrest – a class A misdemeanor.
A State Police Sergeant was driving through the Bronx and conducted a traffic stop on a black 2012 Audi A4, operated by Wright, because an expired out-of-state registration was displayed on the vehicle. The Sergeant approached the vehicle, and after a brief conversation with Wright, the vehicle drove away and then crashed into multiple, unoccupied parked vehicles.
Following the crash, a struggle ensued between the Sergeant and Wright, while Timmons fled on foot from the vehicle. As the incident developed, two retired NYPD officers, having witnessed the occurrence, assisted the Sergeant with taking the suspects into custody. After Wright and Timmons were arrested, it was discovered that they illegally possessed a loaded firearm with a high capacity ammunition magazine located in the vehicle.
Wright and Timmons were charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm – a class E felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree – a class A misdemeanor and New York City Administrative Code 10-131(i)(3). Wright was additionally charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree, Assault in the 3rd Degree - a class A misdemeanor and Resisting Arrest. Wright and Timmons were remanded to Bronx Central Booking pending arraignment.
