PRESS RELEASE

On October 7, 2022, shortly after 11:30 PM, the State Police received simultaneous calls for a collision and an armed robbery in progress on the Sagtikos State Parkway southbound near exit S3, town of Islip, Suffolk County.

Preliminary investigation revealed, a minor collision occurred in the southbound lanes of the Sagtikos State Parkway in the area of exit S3, involving three vehicles. The operators of two of the vehicles exited their cars ready to exchange information and call 911 to report the collision.  Shortly thereafter, the operator and passenger from the third vehicle exited their car, when the passenger unsuspectingly pulled a gun on the occupants of one of the involved vehicles from the collision. The passenger demanded money from the occupants and fired a round into the ground. The two suspects then stole numerous wallets containing U.S. Currency, credit cards and a pair of Air Jordan sneakers and fled the scene.

After a thorough investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and Community Stabilization Unit (CSU), the two suspects were arrested and proceeds of the robbery were recovered. Vehicle operator Brittany Larrea, 22 of Medford, NY was charged with three counts of Robbery 1st Degree a B – Felony and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree an A – Misdemeanor. The passenger, a juvenile under the age of 18, was charged with three counts of Robbery 1st Degree a B – Felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree a C – Felony, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree an E – Felony, Menacing 2nd Degree an A – Misdemeanor, Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree an A - Misdemeanor and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree an A – Misdemeanor.  Both subjects were arraigned in Suffolk County First District Court today, November 2, 2022, and were remanded to Suffolk County Correctional Facilities in lieu of bail. Larrea’s bail was set at $25,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond, $200,000 partially secured bond. The Juvenile’s bail was set at $20,000 cash bail, $40,000 bond, $100,000 partially secured bond.

Due to the hard work and investigative efforts from the Troopers on scene and the follow through from the BCI and CSU Investigators, both suspects will have to answer for their dangerous criminal actions.
