Tonawanda, NY – On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at approximately 8:50 p.m., State Police responded to I-190 southbound, in the town of Tonawanda, Erie County, for a report of a serious personal injury motor vehicle crash.

A preliminary investigation determined a motorcycle traveling northbound in the area of mile marker 11.5, failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.  The motorcycle then struck the center concrete barrier causing the motorcycle to go airborne and hit a light pole on the southbound side and a Ford F150, traveling southbound.  The light pole and wires were blocking all southbound lanes for several hours.

State Police have confirmed the driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Erie County Medical Examiner.  The name is being withheld pending an autopsy that is scheduled for later today.

The investigation is still ongoing.  More information will be released as it becomes available.  State Police are asking if anyone may have witnessed events leading up to the crash or has information that could aid in the investigation, to contact Investigator John McCusker, SP Buffalo, at (716)935-6528.
