**UPDATE: Names Released**
 
After further investigation, State Police have determined that a 2015 Toyota Highlander and a Ford F-350 towing a flat deck trailer, were  stopped in traffic in the left hand lane of I-90 westbound when a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox struck the rear of the trailer.  The impact caused the Equinox to catch fire and caused the Ford to strike the Toyota.  No injuries were reported in the Toyota Highlander.  
 
The driver of the Equinox, TeShawn A. Lang-Smith, 25, of Batavia, NY, was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital where he is currently listed in guarded condition.  The two passengers of the Equinox, 29-year-old Leonard Johnson, and 26-year-old Nicholas D. Scott, both of Batavia, NY, were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for serious injuries.
 
The driver of the Ford F-350, Ronald D. Thompson, 65, of Oak Grove, MN, was not injured, but was found to have an active felony warrant.  Thompson was wanted for Fraud out of Nevada with a full extradition and bail set at $26,875.00.  He is awaiting arraignment as a Fugitive From Justice before the Town of Batavia Court.

The crash remains under investigation.

Batavia, NY - On Thursday, March 17, 2022, at approximately 6:38 p.m., State Police responded to a report of a serious injury crash on I-90 westbound in the town of Batavia, Genesee County.
 
The crash occurred in the area of mile marker 389.7, between the Leroy and Batavia exits.  A preliminary investigation determined the crash involved a tractor trailer and an SUV.  As a result of the collision, the SUV became fully engulfed in flames.  One individual was flown to the hospital by Mercy Flight with life-threatening injuries and two others were transported by ambulance for serious injuries. 
 
All westbound lanes are currently closed.  Traffic is being diverted at exit 47 (Leroy) until accident reconstruction has been completed.  
 
More information will be released when it becomes available.
