UPDATE: State Police are investigating a fatal crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in the town of Haverstraw

Update: New York State Police have identified the operator of the vehicle of the crash on the Palisades Parkway on February 26, 2023, as Bernadine Ramtahal-Thomas, age 34 from Maybrook, NY. She is an officer with the New York City Police Department. She is still listed in critical condition.

On February 26, 2023, at approximately 3 a.m., New York State Police from the Haverstraw barracks responded to a single vehicle crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in the town of Haverstraw. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2021 Hyundai was traveling northbound near exit 13, left the roadway and crashed into a tree. The operator of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition. The passenger in the vehicle, Chevy Thomas, age 36, also from Maybrook, New York was pronounced deceased at the scene. State Police were assisted by Thiells Fire Department, Stony Point Fire Department, Haverstraw Ambulance, and Hatzoloh EMS.
