The New York State Police at SP Auburn responded to 2042 West Genesee Street in the Town of Aurelius for a reported burglary in progress, with the occupant of the residence fleeing to a neighboring residence. It was also reported that the suspect that entered the residence was armed with a weapon. Officer’s from the Auburn City Police Department and Deputies with the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the area. A perimeter was quickly established by responding law enforcement and a male subject, matching the description of the suspect, who was later identified as Kenneth R. Scott, was discovered hiding in a farm field, in the area of the residence. A suspicious vehicle was also located near the residence, where the operator was found to be intoxicated. After initial investigation, there was concern that there may be a second suspect remaining in the residence. State Police Crisis Negotiators and the State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT) responded to the scene.
A search warrant was secured from the Cayuga County Court, which was executed by the State Police SORT team, rendering the scene safe. After a thorough search of the residence by investigators, large quantities of drugs, drug paraphernalia and US currency were secured from inside of the residence.
After further investigation into this incident, The New York State Police arrested Kenneth R. Scott, age 30 from the City of Auburn for Burglary in the 1st degree, for entering the residence and displaying a weapon. Scott was sent to the Cayuga County Jail to await Cayuga County CAP Court. The occupant of the residence, Eric M. Prior, age 23, was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree and Criminal Possession of Marihuana 1st Degree. Prior was sent to the Cayuga County Jail to await Cayuga County CAP Court. The operator of the suspicious vehicle that was located near the scene, Harry A. Fearon, age 24, from Union Springs was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, processed at SP Auburn and issued traffic summons to reappear in Aurelius Town Court and released.
The New York State Police were assisted during this investigation by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, the Auburn City Police Department and the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force.
