UPDATE:

The investigation into attempted traffic stop in the town of Fort Covington on January 19, 2020 is continuing.

The investigation has revealed during the attempted stop, Trooper Shawn Windoloski, SP Malone, discharged his Division issued weapon into the left rear tire of the vehicle, attempting to disable the vehicle.

An administrative investigation, which is done per Division policy, is being conducted by the State Police Professional Standards Bureau.

Trooper Windoloski, a three- year veteran with the State Police, is currently suspended without pay.

No criminal charges have been filed in the case, which is ongoing.

On January 19, 2020, at approximately 8:00 p.m., State Police out of SP Malone stopped a car for speeding on State Route 37 in the town of Fort Covington.
 
The driver failed to comply for the Trooper and a short pursuit ensued.
 
The driver stopped the vehicle on Frye Road, and a male passenger ran from the vehicle.
 
The driver drove from the scene again, the Trooper discharged his division weapon into the left rear tire in an attempt disable the car.
 
The second pursuit lasted for approximately four miles, before the driver was taken into custody, while a search for the male passenger was conducted by State Police, the State Police Canine Unit and US Border Patrol.
 
The male passenger was located and when taken into custody, suffered minor injuries. It is also determined he sustained a mild heart attack when running from the scene on Frye Road and was transported for medical treatment.
 
A trooper on scene also suffered minor injuries when taking the subject into custody.
 
No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
