PRESS RELEASE
Update:
On March 21, 2023, members of the New York State Police with the assistance of the Plattsburgh City Police Department, Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Essex County Sheriff’s Department, Homeland Security Investigations and United States Border Patrol arrested Michael J. Rougeau, age 48, and Michael A. Nastasia, age 30, for Murder 2nd degree.
On March 20, 2023, around 2:12 a.m., State Police members responded to State Route 9, AuSable Chasm Bridge in the town of Chesterfield for a suspicious death. When Troopers arrived on the scene, they located Kenneth C. Darrah, age 37 of Keeseville, NY, deceased on the riverbank on the north bank of the river.
The investigation has determined a physical altercation occurred on the AuSable Chasm Bridge in which Darrah was stabbed and thrown off the bridge.
Rougeau was arrested on March 21, 2023, at his residence in the city of Plattsburgh. He was taken into custody and transported to the Plattsburgh City Police Department for questioning. Rougeau was charged with Murder 2nd degree. On March 22, 2022, Rougeau was arraigned in the Town of Chesterfield Court where he was sent to the Essex County Jail without bail.
Nastasia was arrested on March 21, 2023, in the city of Plattsburgh. He was taken into custody and transported to SP Plattsburgh for questioning. Nastasia was charged with Murder 2nd degree. On March 22, 2022, Natasia was arraigned in the Town of Chesterfield Court where he was sent to the Essex County Jail without bail.

Update:
On March 21, 2023, an autopsy was performed at Glens Falls Hospital on Kenneth C. Darrah, after Darrah was discovered deceased in the town of Chesterfield, on March 20, 2023. The autopsy determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma and multiple stab wounds. The manner of death has been ruled as a homicide.
State Police continue to ask for anyone with information to please contact State Police at 518-873-2777. This investigation remains ongoing.

On March 21, 2023, around 10:00 a.m., an autopsy will be conducted at Glens Falls Hospital by Pathologist, Doctor Michael Sikirica.
State Police are asking for anyone with information regarding this incident to please contact State Police at 518-873-2777.
State Police were assisted by New York State Forrest Rangers, Keeseville Fire and Rescue, and Essex County Coroner.
This investigation remains ongoing by the New York State Police and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
