State Police continue to investigate the fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Route 67 in the Town of Schaghticoke on Friday morning.
Preliminary investigation has determined that an uninvolved motor vehicle attempted to pass Daniel Taber as he operated his 2008 Pontiac G6 westbound on State Route 67.
Taber sped up and the uninvolved motor vehicle was unable to complete the pass, subsequently returning to the westbound lane behind Taber’s vehicle.
Taber entered a curve in the roadway and was unable to maintain his lane of travel. He then exited the northern shoulder, striking a mailbox. He reentered the roadway, crossing into the eastbound lane and into the path of a 2010 Toyota Corolla operated by Paul DeMarco. DeMarco had been traveling eastbound on State Route 67 when the vehicles collided.
At approximately 6:58 a.m., State Police responded to a fatal two-car motor vehicle accident in the area of State Route 67 and Muriel Lane in the town of Schaghticoke.
The two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on State Route 67 when they collided head-on. The two occupants of the westbound vehicle were deceased at the scene. The operator of the eastbound vehicle was transported via helicopter to Albany Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The identities of the deceased are confirmed to be 44-year-old Daniel J. Taber of Hoosick Falls, who was the operator of the westbound vehicle, and his passenger 41-year-old Michael Foster, also of Hoosick Falls. The driver of the eastbound vehicle is identified as 49-year-old Paul J. Demarco of Mechanicville
