UPDATE: On May 11, 2020, Shaw was released from the hospital in Vermont and taken into State Police custody. He has been charged with two counts Attempted Assault 1st degree (C felony), two counts Criminal Mischief 2nd degree (D felony), one count Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree (D felony), two counts Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree (A misdemeanor), and two counts Criminal Contempt 2nd degree (A misdemeanor). Shaw was arraigned by the Essex County Court and remanded to the Essex County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $250,000 bond.
UPDATE: The suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Jason G. Shaw of Moriah. He is currently in stable condition at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont.
The members involved in the shooting have been identified as Trooper Christopher Markwica and Trooper Adam Duquette, both of SP Lewis. They have both been treated and released for minor injuries.
Charges are pending Shaw’s release from the hospital.
Original release: The New York State Police are investigating a member involved shooting in the town of Moriah.
Troopers were called to Lamos Lane shortly after 11 a.m. after a suspect threatened to harm an acquaintance.
Troopers were at the scene when the suspect arrived in a vehicle.
The suspect then rammed both patrol vehicles, totaling one and damaging the other.
The suspect then attempted to run over the members with his vehicle. The members then fired shots from their division issued firearms at the suspect’s vehicle, striking the suspect.
The Troopers suffered minor injuries and have been treated and released.
The suspect was airlifted to Fletcher Allen for treatment.
Currently, there is no threat to public safety.
