New Rochelle, NY – On December 1, 2020 at approximately 8:50 p.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on I-95 in the city of New Rochelle for multiple vehicle and traffic violations. While interviewing the driver, probable cause to search the vehicle was established. The driver, Tyrese N. Johnson, 21, of Valley Stream, NY, was taken into custody after Troopers discovered a loaded FN 509 9mm handgun in the vehicle. It was loaded with a large capacity ammunition feeding device containing numerous rounds of ammunition. An additional large capacity ammunition feeding device was also located in the vehicle.
Johnson was taken into custody, transported and processed at SP New Rochelle where he was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree (Loaded Firearm other than in a person’s home/business); a Class C Felony, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree; a Class D Felony, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device; a Class A Misdemeanor.
Johnson was arraigned before the City of New Rochelle Court and remanded to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
