PRESS RELEASE

On January 09, 2021 at 3:00 P.M., Troopers out of SP Fredonia arrested Megann M. Panek, 30, of Fredonia, NY for Aggravated Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated With a Child (Leandra’s Law), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2nd Degree.

On January 9, 2021, Troopers responded to a 911 call for a vehicle facing eastbound in the westbound lane on State Route 20 in the town of Westfield.  Troopers along with Westfield Police located the vehicle and observed Panek at the wheel and a 6-year-old child passenger.

While interviewing Panek, she was unable to answer questions regarding her intended destination or where she was coming from.  Troopers also noted obvious signs of impairment and failed standardized field sobriety tests at the scene.  A subsequent search of Panek and the vehicle would recover marijuana, methamphetamines and various drug paraphernalia.  Panek was further evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert. Panek consented to a blood draw at Brooks Memorial Hospital.  The child was safely turned over to a family member. Panek was arrested and processed at SP Fredonia.

Panek was issued vehicle and traffic tickets, as well as appearance tickets for Westfield Town Court for January 2021.
