PRESS RELEASE

On November 18, 2021 at approximately 3:27 p.m., New York State Police responded to a report of a vehicle into a pond in the town of Laurens.

An investigation revealed that a 56-year-old male of Hopewell Junction, NY swerved in an attempt to avoid a deer.  He went off the roadway and into a pond.  The man was not injured.  The New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team responded to assist in removing the Dodge Challenger out of the pond.

As a reminder, if a deer enters the roadway brake firmly and calmly and stay in your lane.  Swerving can cause you to lose control of the vehicle.

If you do hit a deer, pull off to the side of the road as soon as it’s safe to do so.  Turn on your hazard lights and stay in the car.  Call local police if you need assistance.
