Yorkshire man arrested for assault with a weapon, related charges

On October 2, 2019, SP Machias Troopers arrested Jonathan W. Matthews, 35, of Yorkshire, NY for Assault with Intent to Cause Serious Injury with a Weapon, Menacing 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree.

Troopers responded to a report of a man threatening another party with a razor knife at a residence on Old Olean Road in the town of Yorkshire. They determined Matthews had threatened a Cattaraugus County employee and attempted to cut that party with the knife. Matthews then became assaultive toward responding Troopers, and resisted their attempts to take him into custody.

Matthews was ultimately arrested and arraigned in Yorkshire Town Court, where he was remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond. He is due to reappear in that court at a later date.
